COVID-19

Dear Member

No doubt you have all received lots of information from various sources about the Coronavirus, COVID-19.

On Friday night 13 March 2020, Tennis Australia (including Tennis West) postponed all Tennis operated events, competitions and tournaments (including pennants) until further notice.

What we are doing

As the health and welfare of our members is paramount, and given the Government's clear measures to contain the spread of COVID-19, we decided to postpone the over 50's mixed doubles tournament last Saturday 14 March.

We have also decided to postpone, until further notice, other official Club events, including tournaments, social events and the usual Saturday afternoon social tennis.

We understand the Club plays a big part in our social lives and the interactions we enjoy are important to our well-being and to our sense of community.

Therefore, the Club will remain available for those members who wish to use the courts and Clubhouse on Saturday afternoons on the understanding that they organise their own matches as it will not be a Club supported event, as per the format established last Saturday.

The same applies to the non-club events that occur at other times during the week with certain groups of members (i.e Tuesday mornings, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and Sunday afternoons).

Club rosters

The Saturday social tennis bar and nibbles roster is suspended until further notice.

However, if you choose to still come along on Saturday afternoon and bring some food to share or wish to help behind the bar, your efforts will be most welcomed, but please take appropriate personal hygiene and food safety precautions.

What you can do

Please understand, that as a voluntary organisation, we do not have the capacity to implement a rigorous cleaning regime to sanitise the Clubhouse or facilities as other company or government run facilities may be.

We have a limited budget and rely on our members to take care of their own personal hygiene and safety.

If you have recently travelled overseas or have had contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or if you are feeling unwell, particularly if you are manifesting flu-like symptoms, in the interests of containing the virus, please do not come along to the Club.

When you are at the Club, please follow the signage we have put up about hygiene, including:

  • Where possible, wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or use an alcohol-based hand rub, before and after play and before and after taking any refreshments at the bar.
  • If you cough or sneeze, do so into a tissue or your inner elbow.
  • Throw tissues into a bin after use.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Refrain from the usual practice of shaking hands or other physical contact whilst at the Club

If you suspect you may have Coronavirus symptoms or may have had close contact with a person who has Coronavirus, you should contact the Coronavirus Health Information Line on 1800 020 080.

For further up-to-date information about Coronavirus, go to the WA Department of Health website or healthywa.wa.gov.au/protectyourself

We will keep you updated as any changes are made to this position.

Thank you for your co-operation in following this advice, in the interests of the well-being of all our members.
